Bocce - Special Olympics

Bocce is a ball game originating from Italy and is very popular in countries and communities with an Italian influence.

It was introduced to Special Olympics New Zealand in 1994. It is very similar to the English lawn bowls and French petanque. Athletes can compete in singles, doubles and team events. Opposing players or teams play with either red or green unweighted balls to a target ball called a pallina.

Bocce training is held on Sundays from 2pm – 3.30pm during spring and summer months and Special Olympics Wellington hosts a regional tournament in March each year.
